K A R A D I

KARADI radio company was founded in Kaunas, Lithuania, in 1935, and operated until Soviet invasion in 1940. It was the biggest radio receiver manufacturer in Kaunas.

In various sources there are different explanations as to what the name KARADI really means:

  • KAimo RADIofikavimas (meaning "Countryside Radiofication");
  • KAuno RADIjas (meaning "Kaunas Radio");
  • KAuno RAdijo DIrbtuvės (meaning "Kaunas Radio Works");
  • the name is comprised of the first letters of the names of the company's three owners (no names are given with this explanation, though).
We can add that there is a Jewish surname Karadi, too.

Looking at the logo, the first two options seem unlikely.
